"Make the World go away ----take it off my shoulder..." an old Country favorite sung by Eddy Arnold expresses how I often feel when I hear about all the catastrophes, wars, suffering and injustices happening in the world. I look around me and see dear ones going through hard times and I, myself, struggling with various problems. Only when I listen to the small voice of the Spirit inside reminding me of the verses from Matthew 11: 28 - 30: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me. For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." When reading that I sense God's Sovereign care and encouragement. Everything that seems so big diminishes in His loving promises and Presence. Somehow, I am able to turn everything over to Him and trust Yeshua for strength for the day. My mother, Emma Glass, who has gone to be with the Lord, used to say "But God", whenever there were problems too big for us. How often I have quoted her when we face hard situations now. As we face each situation in life our thoughts are drawn to the Tanakh in Isaiah 53: 4- 6: "Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smittenby Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turnedto his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."
